Comet 21P Giacobini-Zinner
Author Last Post
Cool means low in the low 40s at night and a high in the mid 70s in the day. The air is so clear it is disorienting and the silence is profound.

The comet appears to be at 7th mag. now, and is moving approx. 4.6 arc seconds per min. That won't allow for too long of exposures before showing some comet movement.

Hey Guys,

I was hoping for some good morning skies leading up to perihelion on the 10th, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I've been taking advantage of any clear mornings we get, and I took this image on Sept. 1st at 5:30 am. It's a single 60 sec. exp. at 1600 iso with my Canon T4i and the 12.5" Newt. The comet appears to be at 7th mag. now, and is moving approx. 4.6 arc seconds per min. That won't allow for too long of exposures before showing some comet movement.

Looks like we're stuck in this weather pattern until sometime next week. Let's hope for some clearing by the 15th.

Johnny

That is one beautiful comet shot, Johnny. Congratulations!

For whatever it is worth fellow Astro-nuts, we are camped out high in the Rockies just short of the continental divide. Thunderstorms and rain every evening, so no imaging but we are enjoying the cool mountain air.
