Thanks guys. Yes Aubrey, the ion tail, which is what has been seen in some photos, is not very prominent. This mainly due to its’ angle of our view from Earth’s vantage point. A hint of the dust tail is noted from the somewhat elongated coma. The FOV with my camera is 41 X 28 arc mins, so it does fill the shoot. The tail may get more revealing as it travels north in the next few weeks.

It's bigger than the full Moon at around 3.5 mag. now. I took this image on Monday, Dec. 10 around 9:15 pm. It's a stack of 3-60 sec. exp. at 3200 iso with my Canon DSLR and 12.5" Homemade Newt. The comet is moving very fast right now, so anything over a min. exp. will show comet trails. I used DeepSkyStacker, a free download program, that has the ability to stack on the comet, then stack on the stars, and combine the two to show the comet with no star trails. It is easily seen with just the naked eye looking like a big hazy blob the size of a full Moon. On Dec. 16 it'll be easy to find just below the Pleiades. > I hope everyone gets a chance to view it in the next few days, but it'll be hanging around in prime time for another couple of months as it heads north. > > Johnny > > Attachment(s): > File: 46P-3X60-12-10-18.jpg (251.1 KB) -- Address: http://s3.amazonaws.com/ClubExpressClubFiles/901132/attach/2199269_0_46P-3X60-12-10-18.jpg > > > > > > >>> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<< > You have received this message as a member of: Central Texas Astronomical Society > Change preferences (including opt-out): https://CTAS.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=13&club_id=901132. Very good job Johnny. It sure fills the screen but it looks like any tail is minimal.
